Top 10 Essential Oils

There are over 100 essential oils in common usage for aromatherapy, but these oils are consistently among the top 10 in the world (in alphabetical order, not ranking).

Bergamot Essential Oil (Citrus bergamia)
Use mainly for its antidepressant properties, but also known to restore lost appetite. Can also be used for acne, oily skin, and dull, sluggish complexions.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus globulus)
Use for respiratory ailments, bronchitis, feverish conditions, the flu, and skin problems such as burns, ulcers, and wounds.

Geranium Essential Oil (Pelargonium graveolens)
Use as a cellular regenerative in the treatment of acne, burns, broken capillaries, mature skin, and eczema or red irritations on the skin. Can also be used for cellulite and oily, congested skin.

Grapefruit Essential Oil (Citrus paradisi)
Use to break down cellulite when mixed with evening primrose as a carrier oil. Can also be used as a treatment for dull, sluggish complexions.

Lavender Essential Oil (Lavandula angustifolia)
Use primarily for healing burns, sunburns, and some infected wounds. Can also be used for headaches by inhalation and applying to the temples.

Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon cablin)
Use for dry, chapped, or weathered skin. Can also be used for tissue regeneration and to stimulate the pituitary gland.

Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha piperita)
Use for nausea and stomach aches, vomiting in pregnancy, and cramps. Can also be used to stimulate the nervous system and calm the mind.

Rosemary Essential Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Use for depressive states with general debility and indications of cardiovascular weakness. Can be used for respiratory and circulatory disorders, liver congestion, digestive and nervous complaints, muscular and rheumatic pain.

Tea Tree Essential Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Use topically to disinfect scrapes and surface wounds. Used externally to kill foot-related fungi, particularly athlete’s foot and toenail fungus.

Ylang-Ylang Extra Essential Oil (Cananga odorata)
Use to calm breathing, for high blood pressure, and to treat impotence (frigidity). Ylang-Ylang means ‘Flower of Flowers’ and is an exotic, aphrodisiac floral.
